2005 PA Program
Mountain State University’s
Physician Assistant (PA) program, established in 1994, provides
quality medical education for primary care physician
assistants. The program began as a The program maintains continuing accreditation
by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the
Physician Assistant Inc. (ARC-PA).
The PA program
began as a two-year bachelor's program in 1994 and was converted
to a three year master's program in the spring of 2001. Those
student who were enrolled in the existing bachelor's program
were given the option in spring 2001 of completing their
bachelor's degree or going into the master's program. Nine
student chose to enter the master's program and completed their
degree in 2003.
Graduating
students are required to take the national exam,
Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE) Exam,
given by
the
National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
MSU graduates have done well with an average of 84% passing on
the first attempt for the last ten years. The cumulative average
pass rate for the last ten years is 95% while the national pass
rate has averaged 90% over the last ten years.
The percentage
of graduates who are currently working in the field averaged 75%
for the last ten years. This shows that the program is
successful in producing well trained graduates that are entering
the workforce immediately after graduation.
