The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program at Mountain State University (MSU) began in 1997 and has been one of the most successful programs at MSU.  During the first year, the acceptance rate into the program was 43.9% and has increased to 84.4% in 2004 as the program has grown.  Of those students that were accepted into the program, the seven year average of graduates is 86.4% with 92.6% of the 2004 students graduating.  There is an 88.8% average of graduates over seven years who took the certification exam given by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).  Of the students graduating in 2004, 92% took the certification exam and 100% passed.  The average seven year pass rate is 90.5%.  The seven year average of graduates who took the exam and are currently working in the field is 98.7% while the last five year’s average is 100%.  This shows that the program is successful in producing well trained graduates that are entering the workforce immediately after graduation.
