Mountain State University (MSU) offers courses through four different modalities: 1) Traditional, In-seat; 2) Independent Study; 3) Cohort; and 4) Online. A student's course load may consist of one or more of these methods.

In reporting MSU's total unduplicated headcount enrollment, each student's course load is calculated and the student is classified under the modality under which he or she took the most courses. In addition, the annual unduplicated headcount has been broken down by campus location and includes the Beckley campus, Center Township campus, Martinsburg campus, Orlando campus, Compass Knowledge, Education Direct, the MSU Academy, and those with no location code specified.

The following links provide the unduplicated headcount enrollment since the 1999-2000 fiscal year. The fiscal year includes the summer 2, fall, spring, and summer 1 semester.
